Local services and rules

Moving to Plantation: who to call and what the city asks.

Plantation collects household garbage through a Pay As You Throw system, in which residents buy official blue City bags at retailers including Publix, Winn-Dixie and Walmart. Bulk pickup does not take construction debris or loose construction materials, and refrigerators and air conditioners need the Freon removed and an approved sticker attached. The city also runs Freebee, a free on-demand ride service open to residents and visitors within the City's service area.

Commercial vehicle and swale parking rules

Plantation code enforcement requires commercial vehicles kept at a residential property to be fully inside a carport, garage or accessory building, and overnight parking of them is not allowed. The same page says vehicles must be parked completely on a driveway, garage, carport or accessory building. Parking on the swale or over the sidewalk is not allowed.

Construction activity in Plantation is allowed between 7:00am and 8:00pm on weekdays and Saturday, according to the same code enforcement page.

Electricity and gas providers

The City's service providers page lists Florida Power & Light as the electricity provider and Teco Peoples Gas as the gas provider.

Opening a Plantation Utilities water and sewer account

The Plantation Utilities Department handles water and sewer. Opening an account takes a non-refundable application fee plus a deposit.

Utilities Customer Service at (954) 797-2290 gives the required deposit amount and confirms whether the property has water and sewer or water only. Accounts can be opened in person at City Hall on weekdays from 8:00AM to 4:00 PM, or online.

A tenant who is not the property owner must also provide a photo ID, a signed lease showing the service address, and a notarized Acknowledgement of Right to Occupancy form.

Blue bags, clear recycling bags and Waste Management

The City's service providers page lists Waste Management for solid waste and recycling. The cost of the blue bags plus the monthly utility bill makes up the total cost of garbage collection, bulk pick-up and recycling.

Under the recycling guidelines, recycling is voluntary, and most single-family homes, townhouses, duplexes and triplexes must use the City's clear recycling bags. Recycling is collected once weekly beginning at 7:00 AM, with no service on Sunday or Christmas.

Bulk pickup for furniture, mattresses and appliances

Bulk pickup covers appliances, furniture, mattresses, carpets and other large household items too big for a blue bag, up to 15 cubic yards per pickup.

Bulk items go curbside no earlier than the Saturday before the scheduled pickup date and no later than 7:00 a.m. on collection day.

The 750 NW 91st Avenue drop-off center

The City's Recycling Drop-off Center at 750 NW 91st Avenue takes tree branches, palm fronds and grass clippings from residents only, with proof of residency.

Household hazardous waste collection events are free, drive-thru, and open to Plantation residents with proof of residency at the Public Works Compound, 750 NW 91st Avenue.

Library cards and pet registration

The Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library issues cards at no charge to Plantation residents, owners of City-based businesses, students at Plantation public schools and City employees. A photo ID and proof of current address are required.

Pets in Plantation must be registered with the Broward County Animal Care Division.
