Local services and rules

Moving to Culver City: who to call and what the city asks.

A residential block party in Culver City needs a permit form, and the form must be submitted no later than 15 full City Hall working days before the party date. Residential permit parking for a block starts with a petition that needs approval from 75% of the residents of each block. Furniture collected on the City's scheduled bulky item pickups is landfilled.

The moving truck permit and its posted signs

A moving truck permit is applied for online through the City's Permit Portal, and the City reviews the application within 5 business days. The NO PARKING signs for a permitted space must be posted at least 48 hours before the restriction.

Permit fees must be paid before the permit is issued. Except when posted on a parking meter, at least two temporary no parking signs are required, with no more than 30 feet between them.

Street sweeping parking restrictions are changing citywide from 4-hour windows to 2-hour windows, and drivers should follow the posted signs.

The Residential Parking Permit and its paperwork

Residents apply for or renew a Residential Parking Permit through the Get-a-Permit website, and only one residential account is allowed per address.

The application needs four things:

  • a vehicle registration
  • a California ID or driver's license
  • a utility bill from SCE, Golden State Water, So Cal Gas, or Culver City Sanitation
  • proof of ownership or rental

Downtown parking structures and the Line 6 bus to LAX

The City runs three public downtown parking structures. The first hour is free, each additional 30 minutes is $1.00, and the daily maximum is $12.

Culver CityBus runs Line 6 and Rapid 6 to LAX seven days a week for $1. Both buses drop riders at the LAX City Bus Center.

Golden State Water and City trash and recycling

Golden State Water serves the Culver City water system. A new resident starts City trash and recycling service by calling (310) 253-6400, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Rental unit registration, the 3.25% cap and the $1,000 fines

Landlords must register rental units and re-register each year by July 31st. The maximum permissible annual rent increase is 3.25% for increases effective on or after June 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.

A landlord in violation of the rent ordinance may face administrative fines up to $1,000 for each violation, and each day a violation exists counts separately.

Culver City Unified, the Julian Dixon library and voter registration

Culver City Unified School District serves the city and publishes enrollment dates and permit information for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Culver City Julian Dixon Public Library is the city's public library. The City's election page links to the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder for voter registration and status.
