Local services and rules

Moving to Inglewood: who to call and what the city asks.

The City of Inglewood provides water service within a 7.2 square mile service area; the remaining customers are served by Golden State Water Company or Cal-America Water Company. Single and multi-family residential customers receive unlimited free bulky item pickups per year, covering furniture, mattresses, rugs and water heaters. In permit parking areas, vehicles without a proper permit face strict ticket and tow enforcement. Inglewood is in Los Angeles County, California.

Encroachment Permits for Bins and Equipment

Large trash containers and construction bins placed in the street need an Encroachment Permit from the Public Works Department at City Hall, 1 Manchester Boulevard, 3rd Floor. The same page states that an encroachment permit is needed to store materials, place a construction bin, or park equipment in the street overnight.

Street Sweeping Days and Lawn Parking

Residential streets are swept once a week, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Posted No Parking signs show the sweeping day, and No Parking restrictions within the posted hours are strictly enforced. Opposite sides of a residential street are swept on alternate days. Main thoroughfares are swept 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, between 3:30 and 7 a.m.

Parking a car on a front lawn violates the municipal code and can result in a citation to the vehicle owner. The same page lists noise regulations that restrict excessive noise; violations are a misdemeanor punishable by a fine and/or imprisonment.

Residential Permit Parking Across Eleven Neighborhoods

The Citywide Permit Parking Program covers the City's eleven neighborhoods, which align with the four City Council Districts. Residents apply for permits online through the city's permit parking portal, and questions go to the Parking & Traffic Department at (310) 412-5398.

Under the residential permit rules, up to two residential permits per household are free. Applicants need a current California driver's license, current vehicle registration with the matching address, and proof of residency such as a lease or a recent water, electric or gas bill. Residents with a registered residential permit get 12 free visitor permit days per quarter, for visitors, loaner cars or rental cars.

Republic Services Carts and Bulky Item Scheduling

Consolidated Disposal Service/Republic Services provides exclusive residential and commercial waste and recycling collection in the City of Inglewood. Each residence receives one set of carts for trash, recycling and yard waste. Additional carts can be scheduled for delivery or replacement by calling 800-299-4898.

Bulky item pickups are scheduled by calling Republic Services at 800-299-4898 or Public Works at 310-412-5333 at least 24 hours in advance. E-waste and electronics, including computers, refrigerators, dishwashers and stoves, are removed by scheduling with the City of Inglewood Public Works Department.

Empty trash cans and leftover debris come off the curb within 12 hours after pickup, according to the City's neighborly Dos and Don'ts page.

Operation Clean Sweep

Operation Clean Sweep is a special collection program where residents set out eligible bulky items on a designated day without scheduling a pickup; the day follows the street's regular sweeping day. Regular bulky-item pickups are not scheduled during the campaign period.

Electric, Gas, Water and Sewer Accounts

The City's New to the City page lists Southern California Edison Company as the electric utility contact for residents and Southern California Gas Company as the gas utility contact. The page also lists useful telephone numbers for utilities, hospitals, cable television and phone companies, plus City Hall hours.

To open a City water, sewer and refuse account, the utility application is filled out and emailed with the required documents to ingcs@cityofinglewood.org. The required documents are a completed utility application, driver's license, passport, identification, and a lease agreement or deed of trust. Those details come from the City's water service page.

The City cleans and repairs public sewer mains in the street, but the property owner is responsible for the sewer lateral from the home or business to the public main.

Schools, Library Cards, Bus Passes and the Airport

Inglewood Unified School District enrolls new students in Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten through 12th grade through its Aeries Online Enrollment Application; enrollment questions go to (310) 680-5170.

To apply for an Inglewood Public Library card, an applicant must be a California resident with a California photo ID such as a driver's license or state ID and/or proof of current address, and applies at a library location. Digital library cards give access to online databases and downloadable eMedia only and can be upgraded to full access at a library.

The City's Finance Department Cashiering division dispenses bus passes to City of Inglewood residents. Los Angeles International Airport is directly accessible from Inglewood by Century Boulevard.

Long Term Rental Registration

Owners of residential properties with two or more units must register annually with the City's Long Term Rental Division; new property owners have 30 days after purchase to register. The Housing Protection Department monitors and enforces the City's rent regulations and just cause eviction protections for long term rentals.
