Moving to Fletcher: who to call and what the city asks.

Fletcher is in northern Henderson County, about 13 miles south of Asheville. Asheville Regional Airport is immediately west of Fletcher and provides commercial air service to destinations throughout the United States.

Curbside garbage and recycling from Public Works

Public Works provides curbside garbage collection to all Town residents. Town Hall gives the garbage collection schedule for each area.

Garbage must be bagged. The bag must be secured to prevent spillage, and it goes curbside by 7:00 a.m. A household without a trash cart calls Public Works.

The Town provides curbside recycling to all Town residents. Curbside recycling is a contracted service with Curbside Management of Asheville.

White goods, brush and leaf pickup

White goods are inoperative and discarded refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers and similar large appliances, and the Town collects them at curbside as needed. A white goods pickup is scheduled with an online form or by calling Public Works.

Brush collection runs every week starting on Mondays year-round, and a pickup is scheduled by phone or online request. A brush pickup request must be called in or submitted online before 7 a.m. on the Monday of the week of collection.

The Town provides leaf pickup from the 1st Monday in October until the last Monday in December and on the 1st and 2nd Mondays in April. Leaves must be bagged.

Henderson County Convenience Center and Transfer Station

The Henderson County Convenience Center recycles household materials (paper, plastic, aluminum, glass), certain electronics, mercury products and white goods. The Convenience Center is only for residents of Henderson County and does not allow businesses or commercial use. It accepts household trash only from people who take part in the bag for bag program.

The county Transfer Station takes waste for disposal, tires, construction debris and wood waste. The county solid waste facilities open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, excluding holidays and inclement weather.

Schools, library cards and Apple Country Public Transit

Henderson County Public Schools serves Fletcher. Depending on attendance district, students in the Fletcher area attend Fletcher Elementary School or Glenn C. Marlow Elementary School, then Apple Valley Middle School or Rugby Middle School, then North Henderson High School or West Henderson High School.

A new student is enrolled at the school in the attendance district where the parents live. The district Transportation Department can say which district an address is in.

A library card is issued in person at a county library branch with a picture ID showing a current address. A parent or guardian must be present for a child 16 and under.

Apple Country Public Transit provides bus service throughout Hendersonville, Fletcher and Laurel Park, Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Town property taxes and the Board of Elections

Town of Fletcher property taxes support police and fire protection, garbage and recycling collection, brush pickup, seasonal leaf collection, street maintenance, street lighting, Town parks, and recreational programs.

The Henderson County Board of Elections handles election information for Fletcher voters.

National Flood Insurance Program and flood hazard areas

The Town takes part in the National Flood Insurance Program, so Fletcher property owners can buy flood insurance through it whether or not they are in the floodplain. Planning staff can say whether a property is in a designated flood hazard area.
