Local services and rules

Moving to Genoa City: who to call and what the city asks.

Genoa City sits in the southeastern corner of Walworth County, on the Wisconsin-Illinois border. US 12 passes through or near the village; I-43 is 17 miles northwest and I-94 is 20 miles east.

Winter parking and snow rules on village streets

Parking is prohibited on village streets between 2am and 6am from December 1st to April 1st. After a snow emergency is declared, no vehicle may park on any public street, road or highway in the village, day or night.

Owners or occupants of lots next to a public street with a sidewalk must clear the sidewalk of snow and ice within 24 hours after each snowfall ends. The village replaces a mailbox damaged by snow removal with a black mailbox approved by the U.S. Postal Service, and damage is reported to the Public Works Department.

Wednesday trash pickup and Johns Disposal

Trash is picked up every Wednesday, with recycling on alternate weeks, and containers go to the curb by 6am.

For a bulk item, call Johns Disposal to schedule a pickup.

Completely dried-out latex paint can go in the household garbage in Walworth County.

Water, sewer, electric and property taxes

The village water and sewer utility bills quarterly, in January, April, July and October. New utility accounts start with a Utility Account Application. Alliant Energy provides electric service in Genoa City.

Property taxes can be paid online through Walworth County land records.

Building and Right of Way permits

One application covers building and zoning permit requests, and work in the easement or Right of Way needs a separate Right of Way permit submitted to the Director of Public Works.

Dog licenses and the three-dog limit

Municipal dog licenses are required in the village, expire on December 31 each year, and need a current rabies vaccination certificate. A household may have a maximum of three dogs.

Schools, library and voter registration

The Genoa City Joint 2 School District runs Brookwood Elementary School and Brookwood Middle School. Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union (Badger) High School is one of the two districts that make up Lake Geneva Schools, and enrollment is open to school-age residents within the district boundaries.

The Genoa City Public Library has an online library card application.

Residents can register to vote in person at the village clerk's office during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
