Moving to Hurst: who to call and what the city asks.

Hurst is in Tarrant County, about 10 miles from downtown Fort Worth. Hurst is a wholesale water customer of Fort Worth and follows the water-use rules in that contract. Year-round watering rules apply: no sprinkler or irrigation watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., while hand-held hose, drip irrigation or soaker hose watering is allowed at any time.

Hurst Utility Billing office

The Utility Billing office handles water and wastewater accounts. It also provides consolidated billing for garbage and recycling collected by Republic Services.

Applicants for water or sewer service pay a security deposit. The deposit can be paid online through an emailed payment portal link or in person at the utility billing office.

Water service connections are made on weekdays during business hours. The service application should be submitted at least one business day before the requested connection date. Owners who just purchased a home provide the deed or signed settlement statement as proof of legal occupancy, and renters provide a lease agreement.

Trash at the curb by 7 a.m., recycling split at Highway 183

Trash must be at the curb on the house side, not in the gutter, by 7 a.m. on collection day. Trash is collected twice each week.

Recycling is collected on Mondays north of Highway 183 and on Tuesdays south of it. Each household is provided a recycle bin, and acceptable materials may be combined in the bin and set out curbside once per week. Hazardous material is not accepted in curbside trash collection.

Bulky items and the 50-pound line

Bulky items such as furniture, televisions and washers or dryers can be set out with regular garbage on the normal pickup day if each item is no more than 50 pounds.

Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District offers a School Boundary Locator for finding the schools that serve a residential address, and new students register online through the district.

Hurst Public Library card registration starts online. Proof of identity and residency is then brought to the Library Circulation Desk.

Leash law and the Floodplain Administrator

A leash law applies in the city, though the prohibition against running at large does not apply to cats.

Hurst participates in the National Flood Insurance Program, and the City Engineer serves as Floodplain Administrator.

Rental registration by January 31

All residential rental properties must register with the city annually. Rental inspections are required for newly registered units or when an existing unit changes tenants.
