Street parking, snow and block parties

Building Safety and Code Enforcement enforces city ordinances on residential parking and on unlicensed or inoperable vehicles.

From November 15 through April 1, parking on city streets is not allowed from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Snow events can be declared outside those dates or hours, and the alerts state the no-parking time frame. Snow from a property goes on that property or the adjacent boulevard, not in the street.

Electric and gas franchises

Xcel Energy and Wright Hennepin Electric both hold franchise agreements with the City to provide electric service. CenterPoint Energy holds a franchise agreement with the City to provide gas service.

The City utility account and bill

A new utility account for water, sewer, garbage and recycling is opened by submitting the online Start Service form.

Water, sewer, garbage and recycling are billed together on one monthly utility bill from the City. Utility bill payments are due on the 1st of the month.

A stormwater utility fee is charged on the monthly utility bill.

Water hardness is 18 to 21 grains, with iron content of 0.06 to 0.16.

Garbage, bulky items, brush and drop-off sites

LRS provides residential garbage and recycling service, with charges included on the monthly City utility bill. Residents moving into existing homes have garbage and recycling service started along with the water and sewer account.

LRS offers pickup of select bulky items at resident expense, with payment required when the request is made. Paints and automobile fluids go to the Wright County Household Hazardous Waste Division.

Curbside chipping of brush and branches can be requested through Public Works, with fees charged to the resident.

A compost site on West River Street takes seasonal yard waste from city residents only and requires an access card for entry.

Dog licenses and rental licensing

A license is required for each dog over 6 months of age, bought at City Hall with proof of rabies vaccination. Households may keep up to three dogs and four cats over the age of six months.

Rental housing in the city must be licensed annually and inspected every other year.

City Hall, the middle school and Trailblazer

City Hall at 505 Walnut Street is the election headquarters, handling city, county, state and federal elections for city residents.

New students at Monticello Middle School register online or with printed forms that are emailed to the school registrar.

Trailblazer is the public transportation system operating in Wright County and two neighboring counties. Rides are requested by phone, at least 24 hours in advance.
