Local services and rules

Moving to Pomona: who to call and what the city asks.

Pomona is in Los Angeles County. Pomona Choice Energy, created by the City, supplies power as an alternative to Southern California Edison, which still does the billing and handles all new service requests and emergencies. Pomona has a Rent Stabilization and Eviction Control Ordinance that limits residential rent increases to 5% per year, with one increase allowed in a 12-month period. The City names three Residential Historic Districts: Lincoln Park, Wilton Heights and Hacienda Park.

Truck routes and street sweeping days

The City publishes its truck routes: all state highways in the city, Arrow Highway, parts of Holt Avenue, Indian Hill Boulevard, Mission Boulevard, Reservoir Street, Towne Avenue and Valley Boulevard.

The City has a street sweeping program. Each side of the street has a different designated sweeping day, and vehicles must be moved on that day. Signs posted on each street show the schedule.

Downtown residential parking permits

The Vehicle Parking District sells residential parking permits for Downtown lots at $45 per annual quarter. Permits are bought at the Public Works counter in City Hall.

Edison, The Gas Company and the City water account

The City's public utilities page lists Southern California Edison for electricity and The Gas Company for gas service. Water and sewer service is provided by the City of Pomona Sewer and Water Services.

The City's Finance Department handles utility billing and offers an application for a utility services account.

Athens Services pickups and hazardous waste drop-off

Athens Services provides all residential and commercial recycling, organics and waste collection in the city.

The City runs a Bulky Item Collection Program, and Athens Services schedules the pick-ups by phone.

The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County offer free household hazardous waste collection for chemicals, paint, batteries and electronics. Stoves and fridges, tires and trash are not accepted.

Frontier internet and the Utility Users' Tax

The public utilities page lists Frontier Communications for internet.

Pomona residents pay a Utility Users' Tax on electric, gas, telephone and water billings, with an income-based exemption available.

Pomona Unified registration and the library card

The City's education page lists Pomona Unified School District; its office is at 800 South Garey Ave. The district's registration information says it accepts proof of address such as a gas, electric or water utility bill when registering a student.

Pomona Public Library issues cards to California residents with a California driver's license or ID showing the current address. Other photo ID plus address proof is accepted.

Foothill Transit, Metrolink and the airports

The City's transportation page lists Foothill Transit (Silver Streak bus) and Metrolink train service, along with the Pomona Valley Transportation Authority. The same page lists Brackett Field Airport as the municipal airport, and LA/Ontario International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport as international airports.

Pet licensing and voter registration

The Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. handles pet licensing for the city of Pomona, online, by mail, in person or by phone. Licensing is mandatory, and every dog over 4 months needs a rabies vaccination and current license.

Pomona consolidates its elections with Los Angeles County. Voter registration status is found on the LA County Registrar-Recorder website.
