Local services and rules

Moving to Ridgefield: who to call and what the city asks.

Ridgefield is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The Town offers a noise variance application, and no variance may allow noise that breaks state environmental regulations. Voting for referendums in Ridgefield takes place at Yanity Gym.

Branchville station parking and street rules

The Branchville train station has a Permit Parking Area, and cars parked there without a permit are ticketed. Branchville is a Metro-North Railroad station on the Danbury line, and its platform is accessible by ramp.

The Parking Authority sets the rules and regulations for the parking of motor vehicles in the Town. The Highway Department handles snow and ice control and street sweeping on Town roads.

Recycling Center and Transfer Station permits

Residents need a permit to use both the Recycling Center and the Transfer Station. The annual permit allows access to both, and a permit application with proof of residency goes to the Tax Collector office, in person or by mail. Transfer Station permits for haulers are issued through the HRRA.

One permit covers both sites, and it is good in Ridgefield only. A permit is also required to use the Smart Bin food scraps program.

The Transfer Station accepts household bulky waste and residential small project demolition debris.

Private wells and the Water Pollution Control Authority

The Health Department approves the location and construction of all private wells in the Town. A water analysis is required on all new private wells before final approval.

The Water Pollution Control Authority manages and oversees the Wastewater Treatment Facilities of the Town.

School registration and library cards

Ridgefield Public Schools takes new student registration online. Students entering grades 1–12 who attended school in a different district or state need a written consent for release of records.

Ridgefield Library cards are renewed every two years. A Ridgefield resident gets a library card by filling out a form online or visiting the Circulation Desk on the Main Level of the Library, with proof of Ridgefield residency.

Tax bills, dog licenses and voter forms

The property owner must contact the Tax Collector office if a tax bill has not arrived.

A dog license applicant presents a valid rabies certificate to the Town Clerk.

Voter registration forms are available at the Registrars of Voters Office in Town Hall.
