Moving to Westport: who to call and what the city asks.

Westport, a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, does not have municipal trash or recycling pick-up. Residents either bring it to the transfer station themselves or contract a private licensed hauler. Wheels2U Westport gives on-demand, group ride, door-to-door service between a Westport home or office and the Saugatuck and Greens Farms train stations.

Construction noise hours and driveway snow

A town ordinance bars noisy construction from 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM on weekdays, and from 8:00 PM to 9:00 AM on Saturday, Sunday and legal holidays.

Snow that builds up in front of private driveways is the homeowner's responsibility to clear, not the Town's.

The transfer station at 300 Sherwood Island Connector

The transfer station is at 300 Sherwood Island Connector, open Monday to Friday 7am to 2:30pm and Saturdays 7am to noon. Residents may use it for acceptable trash and recycling, within the maximum bag limit. A private, licensed hauler can also be contracted to take trash and recycling there.

Larger amounts of trash, some appliances and tires require dump tickets bought at Town Hall.

New residents with out-of-town licenses or registrations can use a mortgage statement, deed, lease or utility bill as proof of residency at the transfer station.

Paint, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, lightbulbs and electronics can be recycled at the transfer station six days a week.

Eversource, Southern Connecticut Gas and Aquarion

Eversource is the electric company in Westport. Southern Connecticut Gas Co is the gas company, and Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut is the water company.

The Coastal Link bus and the Norwalk Transit District

The Coastal Link bus runs along the Route 1 corridor through Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield, Bridgeport, Stratford and Milford, seven days a week. Westport's transportation services are provided through an arrangement with the Norwalk Transit District.

Schools, the Registrar of Voters and dog licenses

Westport Public Schools enrolls new residents' students throughout the year, using an online registration form.

The Registrar of Voters is at 110 Myrtle Avenue, Room 107, open Monday to Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; registration can be in person, online or by mail.

Dogs over six months old living in Westport must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed by the Town Clerk. The license runs July 1 through June 30 and is renewed in June.
