Moving to Rohnert Park: who to call and what the city asks.

Rohnert Park, in the heart of Sonoma County, has the M-Section parking permit area. A Residential Parking Permit is required for on-street parking on Maximillian Place and part of Maurice Avenue from 6:00am to 10:00pm Monday through Friday. Permits are bought through the Finance Department with proof of residency, valid California vehicle registration and a valid California driver's license. RVs and boats parked on the street must be moved 1/10 of a mile every 72 hours. Residents and business owners with burglary or fire alarms installed are required to register the devices with the city.

Water and sewer accounts through the Utility Department

Residential and commercial establishments apply for water and sewer service through the city's Utility Department, either at the utility office or by phone. Existing utility customers moving to another address in the city must open a new account to transfer service, at the utility office or by contacting the Utility Department. A social security number or driver's license check is required for a transfer of utility service.

Closing a utility account requires twenty-four hours' notice. A residential property that will be unoccupied for at least sixty days can apply for Temporary Utility Service.

The water supply comes from the city's well system and the Sonoma County Water Agency supply, primarily from Lake Sonoma.

Recology curbside service and bulky item pickups

Recology collects curbside refuse, recycling and compost under a city contract, five days a week except some holidays. Blue recycling bins and green compost bins are picked up every week on the household's trash day. Opening a garbage account, requesting new cans or changing can size is arranged by contacting Recology.

Rohnert Park residents may schedule two free bulky item pickups per year with Recology, by phone or email. Items other than furniture and appliances must be contained and weigh less than 60 pounds.

Sweeping days and the 72-hour street rule

Recology sweeps streets weekly throughout the city, and the sweeping day follows collection day. Some streets carry "No Parking" signs on street sweeping days.

Leaving a car parked on a city street for more than 72 hours without moving it is illegal.

Noise at any hour and the Transportation Permit

Noise violations can occur at any hour, and sources such as music, social gatherings, leaf blowers and construction can all count.

A city Transportation Permit is required to move vehicles or loads above the size, height and weight limits on public streets. Applications are available online or at the Development Services/Engineering Division.

Schools, Sonoma County Transit and the SMART station

K-8 education is provided by the Cotati-Rohnert Park School System, and high schools in the city include Rancho Cotate High School, Technology High School and Credo High School.

Sonoma County Transit provides local bus service in Rohnert Park and Cotati. The SMART passenger rail station is at 900 Enterprise Drive, at the intersection of Seed Farm Drive and Enterprise Drive.

Mobile Home Ordinance rent control and pet licenses

Rent control under the city's Mobile Home Ordinance applies to spaces in the city's mobile home parks, overseen by a Rent Appeals Board. The Rent Appeals Board serves mobile home park residents who are not on leases.

Dogs, cats and pot-bellied pigs must all be licensed. An application can be submitted online or at the city's Animal Shelter.
