Local services and rules

Moving to Vallejo: who to call and what the city asks.

On Mare Island, electric and gas service comes from Island Energy, according to the City of Vallejo utilities page. For residential property and most businesses, the annual sewer and storm water fees are collected on the property taxes, as the wastewater district states on its rates and fees page. Single-family residents may schedule four free curbside bulky pickups annually through Recology Vallejo, and extra collections cost a fee.

Downtown Street Sweeping and Parking Permits

The City lists Downtown Resident Parking Permits and Zone B Resident Parking Permits among its parking permit options. Downtown streets are swept from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on scheduled days, and vehicles parked in violation are subject to a parking citation. Downtown lots are free on weekdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Ferry and SolTrans Service

San Francisco Bay Ferry runs daily service between Vallejo and Downtown San Francisco, with select trips to Mare Island.

Solano County Transit (SolTrans) is the public transportation provider for south Solano County, running local and Solano Express fixed routes and complementary paratransit. SolTrans customer service can be reached at (707) 648-4666 during regular office hours.

Water Service Through the City of Vallejo

The City of Vallejo provides water service, and its water billing page gives the steps for a new account. A new resident signs up at the Commercial Services Division inside City Hall and must request service at least two business days before the start date. A water deposit is due when the new account is opened.

Same-day water service is possible if the customer notifies the City before 5:00 p.m. and pays an additional Water Turn On fee of $144.00.

A new water billing account is opened when you move to a new location in the Vallejo Water service area. A new deposit may be required unless the applicant meets the City exemption criteria.

PG&E and the Listed Cable and Internet Providers

The same City utilities page lists Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) for electricity and natural gas. The page also lists cable and internet providers including AllConnect, AT&T, DIRECTV, Dish and Comcast.

Recology Vallejo Garbage and Bulky Item Pickup

Recology Vallejo provides residential garbage, recycling and organic waste collection. Garbage service is mandatory, and a new resident starts service by calling Recology Vallejo at (707) 552-3110 or through its website.

Bulky items such as old furniture, appliances and mattresses go by scheduled Bulky Item Pickup. Callers scheduling a pickup must give an itemized list of what will be placed at the curb.

Household Hazardous Waste and Used Oil

The Recology Vallejo-American Canyon Drop-Off Facility takes limited quantities of household hazardous waste free, including antifreeze, motor oil, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, paint and sharps. Other types of household hazardous waste go to the Napa-Vallejo Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.

Residential customers can put used oil next to their carts on collection day, up to two gallons a week.

Schools, the Library and the Newcomers Page

The City of Vallejo has a Newcomers & Visitors page. Vallejo City Unified School District runs TK-12 schools and has an enrollment page.

The Solano County Library runs the Vallejo John F. Kennedy Library at 505 Santa Clara Street, and a library card can be requested through its Get a Library Card page.

Solano County Property Tax, Pet Licences and Voter Registration

The Solano County Assessor, Auditor-Controller and Treasurer/Tax Collector work together to produce the property tax bill; the Tax Collector prints and mails the bills and collects the revenue.

Solano County pet licences are bought through the DocuPet system, which asks for proof of rabies vaccination, and spay or neuter proof for the discounted rate.

The Solano County Registrar of Voters handles voter registration; its services are available by phone at 707-784-6675 or by email.
