Moving to San Ramon: who to call and what the city asks.

Clean Harbors, a company contracted by the City of San Ramon, collects household batteries, chemicals, paints, e-waste and fluorescent lamps from residents' doorsteps by appointment only. San Ramon residents, or property managers on behalf of tenants, call 1-800-433-5060 to schedule a hazardous waste doorstep appointment. The San Ramon Police Department issues Guest RV Permits free of charge so visitors can park near a residence. San Ramon allows short-term rentals in any residential district, subject to Zoning Ordinance conditions, and requires annual City registration approval.

Encroachment permits and portable storage units

A dumpster or portable outdoor storage unit placed in the public right of way needs an Encroachment Permit from the City. For a portable outdoor storage unit on a public street, the Public Works - Engineering Division handles permit requirements at (925) 973-2670. A portable outdoor storage unit on private property requires an application and fee to the Planning Services Division.

Preferential parking permits and street sweeping

The City uses a preferential parking permit program in specific neighborhoods to manage street parking. A preferential parking permit needs current vehicle registration and a valid photo ID, brought to the police department front counter.

The street sweeping map has a Sweep Day Look Up feature that finds the sweep day by address. Garbage cans and yard waste cannot be placed in the street more than 24 hours before pick-up.

Construction hours and oversize loads

Construction projects in San Ramon are unlawful Monday to Friday before 7:30 AM and after 7:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday before 9:00 AM and after 6:00 PM.

Transportation loads over the Caltrans standard height, weight and length limits need a Transportation Permit issued by Engineering Services. The Transportation Permit is needed for vehicles over 102 inches wide, 14 feet tall, 40 feet in length or 65 feet combined length.

Alameda County Industries of San Ramon (ACI) collects residential garbage, recyclables and organics under an exclusive franchise agreement with the City. Service questions go to ACI at (925) 380-9480.

San Ramon Neighborhood Clean-Up Days are scheduled three times per year for curbside service residents. Each set out may include up to 3 cubic yards of materials, up to 4 auto tires without rims and up to 2 bulky items. No single item may be over 200 pounds, and a fee is charged for materials over 3 cubic yards.

San Ramon Valley Unified School District enrollment

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District has a School Site Locator that shows which schools are in an address's attendance boundary. Enrolling in the district requires proof of residence at enrollment and whenever the family changes address.
