Local services and rules

Moving to Walpole: who to call and what the city asks.

Walpole is a town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. The Town has an MBTA Commuter Rail station on the Franklin/Foxboro Line, with outdoor bike racks, and a curbside composting program that collects every other week.

Snowstorm parking, towing and snow disposal

Parking on roadways during snowstorms is not allowed. A vehicle that impedes snowplows clearing roadways is towed. A by-law prohibits throwing snow onto a public way, including sidewalks and roadways.

Sand and salt are available to Walpole homeowners only at the Town Garage at 1385 Washington Street, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4 pm.

Trash questions, clothing pickup and the compost site

The Health Department, at 135 School Street, handles trash and recycling questions. It does not accept fluorescent bulbs or tubes.

A curbside program picks up bagged clothing and textiles and accepts boxed small household items such as pots, pans and small decor. Leaves and grass can be brought to the Robbins Road Compost Site.

Walpole Power Choice, Eversource and the Sewer and Water Division

New electricity accounts in Walpole are eligible for automatic enrollment in Walpole Power Choice, the Town electricity aggregation program, and Eversource remains the electric utility. A notice is mailed before enrollment, with instructions for opting out.

The Sewer and Water Division of the Public Works Department administers, operates and maintains the water and sewer infrastructure, with its office on the 2nd floor at 135 School St. Tax and sewer/water bills are paid online through the Collectors Office.

Proof of residency for Walpole Public Schools

Enrolling in Walpole Public Schools requires proof of residency in the Town of Walpole: a mortgage statement or lease agreement, plus a utility bill or property tax bill.

Dog licensing and voter registration

Dogs must be licensed annually once the dog reaches 6 months old, or within 30 days of arriving in the Town. The licensing period runs from January 1 to December 31.

Voter registration is taken at the Walpole Town Clerk office.
