Local services and rules

Moving to Windsor: who to call and what the city asks.

Windsor is in Hartford County, Connecticut. Under the town street rules, there is no parking on Windsor streets between 1 am and 6 am from November 15th through April 15th. There is also no parking on any street during a snow or ice storm that has been in progress for one hour or more. To park in the street overnight legally, a form must be obtained from the police department with the vehicle's details and a valid reason. Owners of property fronting a public sidewalk or bike path should clear a path at least 4 feet wide within 12 hours following a snowstorm.

Windsor Transfer Station on Huckleberry Road

The Transfer Station is open to residents of Windsor and Bloomfield. Only non-commercial loads of household waste may use the Residential Transfer Station. A town ordinance requires any contractor who hauls solid waste to obtain a license.

Residents of Windsor and Bloomfield can recycle items including mattresses, boxsprings, scrap metal and tires at the Transfer Station on Huckleberry Road. The Transfer Station accepts all paint brands year-round during regular business hours. There is also a take it or leave it area at the landfill where residents can leave usable items or take items.

The Transfer Station has a food waste drop-off for residents, and no Transfer Station permit is needed for it.

Curbside, garbage goes in the green rolling cart, put out at the curb by 7 am every week on the same day. Recyclables go in the Big Blue cart, which is put out at the curb every other week. Windsor Sanitation picks up recyclables under contract with the Town. For recycling questions or to obtain a recycling bin, call 860-688-3955.
