Hellertown is a borough in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Properties up for sale must schedule a sidewalk inspection and repair failed sidewalks and curbs before any deed transfer, and the seller is responsible. Road upkeep is split: PennDOT maintains Main, Easton, Walnut and Cherry, while the Borough maintains approximately 20.68 miles of roads.

Permits for dumpsters and PODS

Dumpsters and portable storage containers (PODS) need a permit and cannot be placed in the street without approval from the Code Enforcement Officer. A portable storage container may not stay on one property longer than 5 days.

Snow plowing and the Main Street emergency route

Borough crews start plowing when accumulation reaches two inches. Parking on streets identified as snow emergency routes is prohibited during snow plowing, and obstructing vehicles are towed at the owner's expense. Established snow emergency routes include Main Street from I-78 to Polk Valley Road.

Property owners must clear snow and ice from sidewalks next to their property within 24 hours of a snow event.

Water and sewer from the Hellertown Borough Authority

Water and sewer bills come from the Borough Authority, separate from Borough of Hellertown charges, and the two cannot be paid together.

Trash, recycling and extra pickups

Residential recycling is collected every other week. Containers are placed at least 4 feet from any tree, utility pole, mailbox or fire hydrant, and at least 5 feet from parked cars.

An extra trash pickup is requested by calling the Borough before the scheduled trash day. It costs $25 per item or $125 per hopper. Large furniture such as recliners must be broken down before pickup, and metal is not collected.

Items left uncollected and tagged include televisions, computer equipment, appliances, liquid waste, hazardous household waste, construction materials, furniture, tires and car parts.

Saucon Valley Compost Center on Springtown Hill Rd.

Tree trimmings and yard waste, except grass clippings, go to the Saucon Valley Compost Center at 2011 Springtown Hill Rd. Christmas trees may be disposed of there as well.

The Compost Center is open only to Hellertown Borough and Lower Saucon Township residents with ID.

Saucon Valley School District and the tax bills

The Saucon Valley School District registers students online, and students must be residents of the district on the day of registration.

Property owners receive tax bills from three bodies: the Borough of Hellertown, Saucon Valley School District and Northampton County. The Borough property tax and fire tax bill is mailed out the first week of February each year. Keystone Collections Group collects the property tax for residents within the Saucon Valley School District.

LANTA Route 105 and the Hellertown Area Library

LANTA, the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority, runs Route 105 to Hellertown on weekdays and Saturdays. The route runs from Hellertown to the LVIA Airport Transit Center.
