North East is in Cecil County, Maryland, where recycling is mandatory. Customers of the North East Water System maintain their own underground service lines from the meter to the structure. Town bulk pickup does not take items that result from an eviction or from moving out.
Wednesday garbage and Monday recycling
Garbage collection in the Town is every Wednesday, with the Town contractor collecting in the morning. The Town offers single stream curbside recycling every Monday. Residents provide their own container marked "Recyclables".
Cecil County Solid Waste Management takes recyclables at the Central Landfill in Elkton, which is open Monday through Saturday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Bulk pickup on the third Monday
Bulk trash is picked up by the Town Public Works Department on the third Monday of each month. Residents call Town Hall to schedule a pickup.
Bulk pickup takes appliances, furniture, carpet, mattresses covered in plastic and metal items.
Street sweeping and snow removal
Street sweeping is monthly on the fourth Thursday between 6 am and noon, moving to the fourth Friday if it rains.
Residents shovel the public sidewalks in front of their homes from lot line to lot line, and corner lots cover both sidewalks. Town Public Works plows Town streets, while Cecil Avenue, Main Street and Maudlin Avenue are plowed by the Maryland State Highway Administration.
Cross-County Connection, schools and the library
Cecil Transit runs the Cross-County Connection, a fixed route that serves Elkton, North East, Perryville, the MARC Train, Perry Point V.A. and Cecil College, Monday through Friday with a modified Saturday schedule.
Cecil County Public Schools serves the area, with elementary, middle and high school attendance areas set by home address.
The North East Branch Library is in the North East Station shopping center on Mauldin Avenue.
Water bills, property taxes and voter registration
