Local services and rules

Moving to Hollywood: who to call and what the city asks.

Hollywood sorts its east side by evacuation zone: Evacuation Zone A is the barrier island, and Evacuation Zone B includes all of Hollywood east of Federal Highway. The City also runs the Holly-Go community shuttle, which is free to the public.

The swale, the right-of-way and POD permits

Vehicles may be parked temporarily on the swale for no more than 24 hours. The same limit appears in the code-violation guidance: vehicles may be stored on the City right-of-way only temporarily, for no more than 24 hours. Portable On-Demand Storage (POD) permits for temporary storage containers on private property or in designated areas are issued through the City's Engineering division.

The 65 dBA daytime and 55 dBA night noise limits

Under the Noise Ordinance, continuous sound on residential property may not exceed 65 dBA or 65 dBC from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 55 dBA or 55 dBC from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The level is measured at the property line.

Resident parking permits, the 50% meter discount and the Holly-Go park-and-ride

Hollywood uses license plate recognition for parking permits. The Parking Permits page lists a City-Wide Resident Permit at $210 a year and a Neighborhood Resident Permit at $25 a year.

The City offers a 50% discount on metered parking at Hollywood Beach and in the Downtown Hollywood area to registered residents. Residents must register their vehicles each year with the Parking Division to get the resident discount.

A free Holly-Go Orange Line park-and-ride runs Friday to Sunday, starting at the city hall bus stop on the south side of City Hall circle.

Utility Billing at City Hall, Room #103

New water, sewer and trash accounts are opened by completing the application online, in person at Utility Billing Customer Service at City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Blvd, Room #103, or by email to payutility@hollywoodfl.org. Every new customer pays a utility deposit under City Ordinance, and it appears on the first utility bill.

Waste Pro, USA, bulk waste and the Broward County drop-off centers

Residential sanitation customers receive solid waste and recycling collection from Waste Pro, USA. A new resident first has a utility account set up in their name through Utility Billing Customer Service at 954.921.3938, then calls Environmental Services at 954.967.4320 to have garbage and recycling carts delivered. There is no garbage, recycling, yard waste or bulk waste collection on December 25th.

Bulk waste means large household items such as furniture, mattresses, appliances and bicycles. It is collected once a month and is limited to 6 cubic yards, with no yard waste mixed in.

City collection does not take hazardous materials such as paint, tires, used oil, chemicals, pesticides or propane gas tanks; Broward County Solid Waste and Recycling Services answers disposal questions at 954-765-4999. The Broward County Residential Drop-off Centers take household hazardous waste and electronics only from participating municipalities, on Saturdays from 9AM to 3PM, and require proof of residency.

Broward County Public Schools and library cards

Public schools are part of Broward County Public Schools, and parents who want to enrol a child contact the school directly. Broward County Library cards are open to anyone who currently lives, works, attends school or is visiting Broward County. An Instant eCard is applied for online, and the library card number arrives by email.

Rental Business Tax, Vacation Rental Licenses and the flood classification of 8

Residential rental property, including single family homes, requires payment of the applicable Business Tax to the Treasury Division at 954.921.3225. Vacation rentals need a Vacation Rental License, and the application is submitted online.

Hollywood has a National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System classification of 8, equal to a 10 percent premium reduction for National Flood Insurance policy holders in the city.
