Moving to North Miami Beach: who to call and what the city asks.

The North Miami Beach Public Library is a municipal library, not part of the Miami-Dade Public Library System, and materials borrowed from it are returned to it. The 96-gallon garbage container and the 65-gallon recycling container are assigned to the property address, and a resident who changes residences calls NMB Customer Service at 305-948-2960 before moving.

NMB Water deposit and final bill

NMB Water is a department owned and operated by the City of North Miami Beach, and it supplies water to its customers. A new water account is opened by placing a deposit at North Miami Beach City Hall, Customer Service, 17011 NE 19th Avenue, in the lobby. Proof of ownership or a copy of a valid lease is asked for.

Water service is ended by calling Customer Service at 305-948-2960 to request the discontinuation date. The initial deposit is credited to the final bill.

Garbage billing and the 96-gallon container

Garbage, trash and recycling charges for single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and quadplexes are billed directly to the property owner by the city.

The city provides each resident with a 96-gallon garbage container. Homeowners are responsible for normal care, cleaning, and lost or stolen containers. Carts go out at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on collection day.

There is no garbage or recycling collection on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pickup moves to the next scheduled collection day.

Bulk trash in the swale

Bulk trash that is accepted includes furniture, boxes, general household debris, yard clippings, leaves, and trees and shrubs cut in lengths no longer than 5 feet.

It is stacked neatly in the swale in front of the property, or next to the alley on the property where there is alley pickup. It is kept off the sidewalk and off water meter boxes.

Appliances and items bulk pickup refuses

Appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, microwaves, air conditioners and water heaters are not part of regular bulk pickup. They are picked up only by special request, arranged by phone at (305) 384-7649, for an additional fee.

Tires, dirt or sod, concrete, toxic materials, highly flammable materials, construction and remodeling debris, vehicles, motorcycles, boats, trailers and motors are not accepted as bulk trash.

NMB Line shuttle and On Demand rides

The NMB Line shuttle service runs routes to destinations in the city. NMB Line On Demand rides cover the marked On Demand area only and are scheduled by calling (305) 680-5356.

Library card requirements

Residents and property owners in North Miami Beach, Hialeah, North Miami and the Miami-Dade Public Library taxing district get a free library card on showing proper identification.

To apply in person, a new cardholder visits the library with proof of identity and residence and fills out a short form. An online application issues a digital card that works for up to two weeks before an in-person visit with ID.

Flood-risk information and property visits

The city can provide flood-risk information from the Flood Insurance Rate Map for a property address. On request, the Floodplain Manager/Building Official and Public Works Administrator visit a property to review its flood problem and explain ways to stop flooding or prevent flood damage.

Hurricane Guide and evacuation assistance

A North Miami Beach Hurricane Guide is available at City Hall, community centers and the library.

Residents who need specialized transportation or evacuation assistance pre-register with the Miami-Dade County Emergency & Evacuation Assistance Program, or call the 311 Contact Center.
